Democrat’s failed promise

Anyone remember back in the 2006 campaigns how the democrats were promising lower gas prices?

What was this common sense plan? What happened to it? I wish I had the same gas prices of when the republicans had control.

Two years later….and oil has reached a new record high.

At least Congressmen Boehner hasn’t forgotten this failed promise.

  1. Everyone knows that any talk about lowering gas prices is political pandering.

For future reference, if a politician, whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green, Communist, or Fascist, starts promising lower gas prices, he/she is making an empty promise out of their control.

From my understanding, high gas prices are driven by the insatiable demand for gas in China, India, Brazil, and other emerging developing countries.

The weak US dollar also doesn’t help. Unfortunately, there are very few if any tools at the control of US politicians to affect either of these trends.

In my opinion, the only credible solution to the high gas prices is to develop better and more efficient substitutes. In fact, from an environmental perspective, high gas prices are exactly what the world needs to decrease carbon-intensive energy consumption.

So any politician who is (*cough McCain *cough Clinton) promising lower gas prices is missing the point and purely pandering to the people. Let the people beware.

  2. Now a relief on the gas tax would temporarily lower gas prices. That can be promised. And I believe that’s what McCain is promising.

Americans have enjoyed insanely low gas prices for entirely too long anyway. Check out the prices of gasoline in other developed countries:

    And that’s just from January.
