Greetings from Colombo! I just arrived yesterday and am trying to get settled. Upon arrival, two words pop into mind: Green and Security.
Green
This land is beautiful. While the plane was descending to land, all the eye can see is an expanse of green. Lush forests, fertile rice fields, and a beautiful coastline.
Security
On the ride from the airport to the hotel, you also immediately start to notice the security presence. Soldiers are everywhere. Every bridge, every government building, every stretch of road. Even hundreds of miles away from the war, the war seems omnipresent. (I would have posted a picture of the soldiers, but yesterday, upon taking a picture, the soldiers saw me and told me immediately to delete the photo. Maybe I will sneak one in before I leave. Haha.)

As interested as I am to see a picture of a Sri Lankan (is that correct?) soldier, it would probably be better if eventually you made it back to New York. Maybe trying to sneak a picture is not the best idea.
Anyway, glad to see you made it. Be safe. And bring me back something nice…
Maybe by the time you get back we will actually have a nominee…
