Ted Kennedy is still alive

In the wake of the terrible news regarding the health of Senator Edward Kennedy this week there has been a great deal of genuine heartfelt love, care, and sympathy expressed from many different people.  However, one unfortunate thing I have noticed is that many people are talking about Kennedy as though he has already passed away or at least as though he already has one foot in the grave.  For example, look at this story from the Huffington Post.  I take no issue with the content or emotion of any of these stories, but almost universally everyone seems to be referring to Senator Kennedy in the past tense.  This particular author even states that Senator Kennedy “dying of brain cancer.”  Indeed the prognosis is dire, but to be fair, Kennedy is has been diagnosed with cancer and he, his family, and his physicians are considering the best options to fight this disease with the ultimate hope of beating it.  Yes, it seems that the numbers may not be in Kennedy’s favor, but people have overcome lesser odds, and we must hold out hope that Senator can do the same.

  1. Just imagine for a second: Joran van der Sloot (hero of Chappaquiddick, Aruban style) running for the Senate seat in state of Alabama! ?!?

  2. Mary Jo Kopechne is still dead.
