Author: Sue Monk Kidd
Recently, while randomly browsing in Borders, I found this great book. I would have liked to think a discovered a hidden gem because I had previously not heard of the author, but as it turns out, the book was a best seller so apparently more than a few other people discovered it before I did. Anyway, the book is a brilliant work of fiction that follows Lilly Owens, a young girl trying to un-blur the mysteries of her past while untangling the messes of her present. Set in 1964 South Carolina, the novel flawless engages the reader in its varied themes: racial divisions, loss, forgiveness, redemption, love, religion and spirituality, etc… Through beautiful, well-constructed language the book is at times sad, at times funny, at times inspiring, and always compelling.
Anyway, enough of that; for a much better written reviews and other info check out the author’s page or just google it. The point is that Kwame thinks the book is really good and Kwame thinks that if you read it, you will enjoy it. So go read it.
